Ο Θεόδωρος Κώστας είναι σχεδιαστής, ερευνητής και θεωρητικός του design, καθώς και ιδρυτής του Design Walker. Η διαδρομή του συνδυάζει διεθνή εκπαίδευση στον βιομηχανικό σχεδιασμό και στα νέα μέσα, ακαδημαϊκή διδασκαλία, σχεδιαστική πράξη και θεωρητική έρευνα με σταθερό προσανατολισμό στη συγκρότηση του design ως πεδίου γνώσης και όχι ως απλής τεχνικής εφαρμογής.

Σπούδασε design στην École Supérieure d’Art et Design (ESADSE), όπου απέκτησε το DNAP Design και στη συνέχεια το DNSEP Design με διάκριση. Συνέχισε με μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στην École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), Paris, στο πεδίο των νέων μέσων και νέων τεχνολογιών, ενώ παράλληλα συνδέθηκε με το γερμανικό περιβάλλον του industrial design μέσω σπουδών στο Fachbereich Gestaltung Darmstadt.

Ολοκλήρωσε το διδακτορικό του στο Εθνικό Μετσόβιο Πολυτεχνείο, στη Σχολή Αρχιτεκτόνων Μηχανικών, με ερευνητικό άξονα την οντολογία και αισθητική του χρόνου, τα νέα μέσα προσομοίωσης της μορφής, καθώς και τη σχέση χρόνου, συμβάντος, μορφογένεσης και σχεδιαστικής συνθήκης. Η ερευνητική αυτή κατεύθυνση αποτελεί τον πυρήνα της θεωρητικής του συγκρότησης.

Δίδαξε επί σειρά ετών σε ανώτατα ιδρύματα και συνεργαζόμενους θεσμούς, μεταξύ άλλων στο Institut Français de Thessalonique, στα Ανώτερα Τεχνολογικά Εκπαιδευτικά Ιδρύματα Λάρισας και Σερρών και, στη συνέχεια, στο Διεθνές Πανεπιστήμιο της Ελλάδος, σε γνωστικά αντικείμενα όπως ο βιομηχανικός σχεδιασμός, ο σχεδιασμός επίπλου, ο σχεδιασμός με Η/Υ, ο σχεδιασμός εσωτερικού χώρου, η θεωρία του σχεδιασμού και η μορφολογική συγκρότηση. Η διδακτική του παρουσία εκτείνεται διαχρονικά από το 2003 έως το 2025.

Το 2024 εγκρίθηκε η ένταξή του στο Μητρώο Κύριου Διδακτικού Προσωπικού του Εθνικού Κέντρου Δημόσιας Διοίκησης και Αυτοδιοίκησης (ΕΚΔΔΑ) σε γνωστικά αντικείμενα που συνδέουν πολιτισμό, διοίκηση, πολιτιστική διαχείριση, τοπικές κοινωνίες και nation branding, γεγονός που διευρύνει τη θεσμική εμβέλεια της εργασίας του πέρα από το αμιγώς σχεδιαστικό πεδίο.

Στο έργο του, το design δεν νοείται ως στατικό αντικείμενο ούτε ως ουδέτερη μεθοδολογία, αλλά ως συμβαντική και χρονικο-οντολογική συγκρότηση, μέσα από ακολουθίες, μετασχηματισμούς, επιμονές, περιορισμούς αποδοχής και μορφογενετικές αναγκαιότητες. Η θέση αυτή αρθρώνεται συστηματικά στο corpus Design as Event, το οποίο συγκροτεί τον κεντρικό θεωρητικό άξονα του Design Walker.

Theodoros Kostas is a designer, researcher, and theorist, and the founder of Design Walker. His trajectory brings together international design education, academic teaching, constructive practice, and theoretical research, with a sustained commitment to establishing design as a rigorous field of knowledge rather than a merely technical or stylistic activity.

He studied design at the École Supérieure d’Art et Design ESADSE, where he completed the DNAP in Design and later the DNSEP in Design with distinction. He subsequently pursued advanced studies at ENSCI — École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, Paris, specializing in new media and new technologies, while also extending his design formation through the industrial design environment of Darmstadt in Germany.

He completed his PhD at the National Technical University of Athens, School of Architecture, with research centered on the ontology and aesthetics of time, new media for the simulation of form, and the interrelation of time, event, morphogenesis, and design conditions. This doctoral work forms a critical foundation for his later theoretical development.

Over a long academic span, he taught in higher education and affiliated institutions, including the Institut Français de Thessalonique, the Higher Technological Educational Institutes of Larissa and Serres, and later the International Hellenic University. His teaching encompassed industrial design, furniture design, computer-aided design, interior design, design theory, and morphological structuring.

In 2024, he was admitted to the Main Teaching Personnel Registry of the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA) in Greece, in subject areas linking culture, public administration, cultural management, local communities, and nation branding. This institutional recognition expands the public relevance of his work beyond the boundaries of studio design.

His research does not treat design as a fixed object or as a linear procedure. Instead, it frames design as an event-based and temporally constituted formation, shaped through sequence, transition, admissibility, persistence, and morphogenetic necessity. This position is developed systematically through the Design as Event corpus, which serves as the central theoretical backbone of Design Walker.
